Last April I was diagnosed with stage 4 Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma (neck and throat cancer) at the age of 57.
Fortunately, there was a treatment, although it would be aggressive treatment, which included 70 rounds of radiation and five brutal rounds of chemo.
Prior to my cancer, I weighed 240 pounds. I was in great shape and could be found at the Elk Grove California Family Fitness five days a week. After my treatment, my weight dropped to 178, and I could only stand for 1-2 minutes at a time before my leg would begin to give out.
Three months ago, I wanted to get back in the gym, so I met and hired Cal Fit certified personal trainer, Branden Buentipo.
During our first session, I shared with Branden my illness and the difficult journey I was on and how nervous I was in have to start training all over again. Branden assured me that my journey was his journey and that we were in this together. Branden has been with me side-by-side, step-by-step, continuously helping build my self- confidence with every workout.
So far I’ve increased my weight to 197 pounds and once again I am using the bench press. I feel stronger every day.
I know I have a long way to go, but with Branden’s guidance, motivation and expert training, I know that I can - and will - reach my fitness and health goals.
