Cal Fit Success Story: Group Fitness Instructor, Lisa D.

What's your story?

I had just had my son and was 210 pounds. I didn’t feel like I was the best that I could be and I knew I could do better. I'd been there before, but clearly this was a journey I needed to take to get healthy and back to the body I had. I took losing the extra weight seriously because I wanted members to feel confident in me when taking my classes. There was no procrastinating, complaining, or negative self-talk within myself. I went for it.

How did you do it?

I taught my classes six days a week and added in serious strength training. I also added in high intensity training - lots of plyometrics like we do in our R.I.P.P.E.D. classes. My diet became very clean and I kept a journal of my measurements and what I was currently lifting. It was amazing to look back on my journal and see how strong I was becoming.

Describe the fitness goals you’ve achieved and what you can do now because of it:

My back and knees began to feel so much relief from the unwanted fat around my joints. As I saw results, my spark was coming back. My confidence and energy were coming back. Seeing results pushed me to keep going until I reached my goal of 115 pounds -- that’s a 95 pound weight loss!

Why is this so important to you?

My passion is to inspire people to live a healthy life and to understand that exercise is not a chore or punishment. I have had the privilege to assist in hundreds of body transformations and that in itself is pure inspiration. When I walk in to teach a class, I am EXCITED because in that 50 minutes that we are all huffing, puffing and sweating buckets - we are doing it together, nobody is better than anyone, it's not a competition - we are a team trying to get through that workout TOGETHER! I'm there to push them so they can see and be confident that they CAN do it!
