Goals: Weight Loss, Muscle Gain
I have been a member of Cal Fit since January of 2016 and I haven’t had a whole lot of success prior to my most recent experience but I was only going through the motions. I kept telling myself that I was working hard to get the extra weight off; but the truth is, it was all a lie. It wasn’t my trainer's fault - he did everything right; I just was not ready.
I was always tired, exhausted from my day at work. I used this as an excuse to not go to the gym, or to have a little bit (or a lot) of comfort food. Over the summer of 2017, I decided to give my fitness changes a real shot. Of course, I have those outside motivators (kids who want to play and whom I want to play with!). But the real reason comes down to me. I wanted to know what it is like to be able to do anything, face any obstacle, and overcome it.
Learning How to Compete With Myself
I learned I am a very competitive person and I needed to begin competing with myself in a positive manner. So I returned to Cal Fit and was set up with my current trainer, Nicole.
For the first time I did something different, I actually listened and did what I was advised to do. The workouts were the easy part. Nicole provided a variety of exercises that kept me interested, motivated, and excited for our next session. The time between our sessions I also put in work by running, walking, hiking, and just being active. My trainer advised me of adjustments to make to my nutrition combined with her workout regime. This is what transformed my life.
"Throughout this whole process my trainer has provided the support and motivation I needed to make it. This process has opened my eyes. I see food and exercise differently now."
The most difficult part of this process was my mind, staying positive. My trainer took the word “can’t” out of my vocabulary, because I would say it and give up. This was symbolic of my life: Now I find myself taking on any challenge with more confidence. I was an athlete prior to my stationary days; because of this I have a bad knee that has limited some of the exercises I do. Nicole worked around my injured knee and found other ways to work out the muscle and keep me positive about my progress.
Losing 70 Pounds Transforms Your Life
From July to December 2017, I lost 70 pounds through diet and exercise. I am so beyond thankful for Nicole, my trainer at Cal Fit. I am living a more active lifestyle and enjoying a new variety of foods. Without her I don’t know if I would have gotten here.
