I joined California Family Fitness in August of 2012. Knowing that getting myself moving was going to be paramount to losing the weight I wanted, I knew I needed help to do it. I was 39 years old and 246 pounds!
I was very unfamiliar with working out and did not know where to start. Luckily for me, I met with Fitness Manager, Doug Coelho. He talked with me about my specific fitness goals and a realistic amount of time to achieve them. He also gave me some guidelines for making adjustments to my diet so that I didn't feel like I was depriving myself.
Together we came up with a plan to start slowly with Aqua Aerobics five days a week. I then added some Personal Training with the trainer he recommended, Ashley Thomson. Once I started seeing results and feeling more energy, it became a new way of life for me. They couldn't keep me away from the gym! I had so much support from everyone at Cal Fit. The trainers were always there to answer questions and offer their advice, especially Ashley. I never felt out of place there and I always felt everyone was actively interested in me reaching my goals.
For the past year I have been a very active participant in Body Fit, attending five days a week. Along with 30 minutes of cardio five days a week, I have kept off the weight for over a year and I have gone from a size 20 to a size· 6.
It took me a year to lose those pesky 80 pounds… and that might sound like a lot of time to someone just starting out, but doing it the right way is what will keep you successful. It's a new way of life both eating and exercising, which takes time and practice to get right and to make it a habit. I know for me, I will never go back to the unhealthy and unhappy person that I was. Today I am a new person both inside and out. I look better on the outside for sure, that's the part anyone can see, but mentally I am in a much better place as well. I am more positive now and much more outgoing.
