It's a joyful time of year! We often show our appreciation and love for others during the holidays by giving gifts. And what's not to love about that? It's a fun tradition! Many times, those gifts are plates of goodies. Perhaps it might be fun to surprise neighbors, teachers, and friends this year with a thoughtful gesture that won't add pounds to their waistlines.
Here are our favorite ideas for simple, healthy gift giving.
- Fresh fruit. Always tasty, fruit is a refreshing departure from baked goods. Pineapples are a traditional sign of friendship and welcome, all you need is a bow and a cute gift tag. Mandarins are in season and local--present them in a gift basket or as a fragrant, edible wreath.
- Mixes. Give busy friends a break by offering them a jar of something they can make and enjoy later, like this friendship soup mix or a pancake mix. And don't forget spice blends--it's easier to make your own than you might think.
- Low or no-sugar treats. If clean eating is your jam and you want to share that with your friends, let them see how delicious it can be by gifting them with homemade granola or a plate of processed-sugar-free doughnuts.
- Scrubs and other self-care. Pamper friends with non-edible ways to indulge, like this DIY peppermint vanilla sugar scrub, relaxing lavender bath bombs, or all natural honey-lavender shave lotion.
