Every parent wants the best in nutrition for their family. Unfortunately, hectic schedules and the need for portability can sometimes leave a trail of junk food wrappers and soda cans in the wake of well-meaning parents just trying to survive. The key to feeding your family healthy snacks on the go is planning ahead, and being prepared with tasty portable snacks that kids and parents can both enjoy.
Apple & String cheese
An apple and string cheese is a great portable combination that doesn’t require any refrigeration. Nuts provide protein for lean muscle support, and fat to help you feel full. Apples are lower in sugar than a lot of other fruits, and also pack a healthy dose of fiber inside.
Berries & Greek Yogurt
It’s very easy to throw some little containers of greek yogurt in a soft portable cooler with a baggie of berries, and hit the road. Greek yogurt is higher in protein than regular yogurt, which helps to keep you feeling full, but doesn’t weigh you down. When you’re ready for snack time, just dump the berries in the yogurt, stir, and enjoy.
Banana & Almonds
Bananas get a bad rap because they are one of the more sugary fruits, but bananas also contain potassium, which is a key component in maintaining a proper fluid balance in your body. Pair a banana with a handful of almonds to slow the absorption of sugars and keep you feeling full longer.

Your preschool teacher was on the right track with celery, peanut butter and raisins. Celery is mostly water, but it adds a nice crunch and texture to the peanut butter, and the natural sugar in the raisins will satisfy your sweet tooth. Just spread natural peanut butter in the trough of the celery stick, and decorate with raisins. You can also try dried cranberries or blueberries for a fun variation on this classic snack.
Hummus & Veggies
Carrot sticks, celery sticks, and cucumber discs make great dipping tools for hummus. Hummus is a creamy dip made from blended chickpeas. It is low in fat and sugar and comes in a variety of different flavors such as roasted red pepper, lemon garlic, and black olive. Throw a container of hummus in your cooler, along with some sliced up veggies of your choosing, and enjoy a healthy snack with a satisfying crunch.
