You’ve joined a gym .... now what?! Congratulations on taking the first step to living a healthy lifestyle! At California Family Fitness we are here to support you in reaching your fitness goals and meet your health and wellness needs. Below are some tips to get you started and help keep you experiencing positive results and striving to be your best self.
Tip #1: You don’t need to work out for multiple hours per day – just get moving!
You don’t have to be a fitness fanatic to get enough physical activity to improve your overall health. In fact, we recommend you start off slowly to avoid burn out. It can take up to six weeks for a new behavior to become a habit, so give yourself time to get into a regular routine. Find 10 minutes each day to do something you enjoy, whether that be dancing, swimming, walking, yoga, etc. Consistency is key to achieving success. Whether its 10 minutes or 60 minutes strive to be active five days a week. For quick and effective short workout sessions, click here: https://www.californiafamilyfitness.com/resources/videos
Tip #2: Mix it up
For decades, many fitness enthusiasts vowed that cardio was the best exercise for weight loss. Then strength training muscled its way into the spotlight with programs like cross fit and boot camps. Whether you want to lose weight, run your fastest mile ever, or just tone up a bit, the reality is it’s important to mix it up for best results.
Both cardio and strength training have its advantages and here is why:
- With cardio you will continue to burn calories for approximately an hour post-workout, but when strength training your body will continue to burn calories for up to 48 hours after!
- Both can significantly reduce stress levels, increase circulation and blood flow, improve sleep, and reduce risk of disease and some types of cancer.
- Both improve mental stimulation and stability, effective weight management, and enhanced physical performance.
- They work better together!
California Family Fitness’s personal trainers can help create a customized program that balances cardio and strength training. We offer one-on-one, semi-private, small group, and team training programs. Ask your clubs Fitness Manager for a complimentary consultation to learn how to get results you are seeking!
Tip #3: Nutrition is important
Working up a sweat is great, but nutrition and what you eat every day is critical for long term success. Often times many people will begin a new workout routine and dedicate themselves to a “diet” that includes heavily cutting meal portions and sticking to a certain food group. Being mindful of what you eat is important, however setting reasonable expectations for yourself that is achievable will give you better results. A balanced diet is key as every food group serves a specific purpose and including exercise into your routine makes these purposes even more necessary. Get tips on clean eating
