Reasons to sign up for Local Running Events | CalFit Sacramento, CA

blog-post_300x250_marathonTaking on a new challenge can be time consuming and a little intimidating. But there is definitely something to be said about tackling an obstacle and overcoming your fears. Completing a run event is often times, one of the greatest fitness milestones anyone will face in their lifetime. So if you’ve been thinking about joining a 5k, 10k, half marathon or a full marathon, but haven’t yet, we want to encourage you to swallow that fear and go for it! Not only will you be proud of the success you feel once you’ve crossed that finish line, but you’ll realize that it was not as bad as you thought it would be!

Here are some reasons why you should sign up for a running event:

You’ll be setting goals (and sticking to them). Setting goals is a trademark human behavior. We instinctively want to be better at things. Having aspirations is great but setting out to achieve them is better. You’ll gain confidence, a deeper sense of pride, and appreciation for what your body can accomplish.

You’ll reach a new level of fitness. Training for a running event will boost your weekly calorie burning quota. Sustaining a regular training routine will condition your body for the race ahead. You’ll find you can go a little further or train a little harder each time, progressively moving toward peak performance. Even if you haven’t hit your goal fitness level by the time your event comes around, keep that momentum up!

You’ll be an inspiration to others. There is no greater reward than knowing you’ve inspired someone else to become healthier. Plus, you can keep each other motivated and even start a tradition of signing up for races together.

You’ll get that “superman” or “superwoman” feeling. Nothing makes you feel empowered faster than kicking some serious butt on the pavement. Did you start out at a 5k? Next, try for a 10k!

At California Family Fitness, we support dozens of local running/walking events in the greater Sacramento area. Find out more about these races and how you can begin training for them at our CalFitActive page.
