How do you make smart fitness resolutions in order to keep them?
Whether it’s deciding to lose five pounds or lose a dress size by next month, California Family Fitness is here to provide support and help you not only establish realistic fitness goals but also make sure you stick with them all year long!
4 Simple Strategies for Fitness Success
Tip #1 Get Very Specific
Your goal should be clear and specific, otherwise you won't be able to focus on it and break it down into simpler chunks:
Start with answering five "W" fitness questions below:
• What do I want to accomplish?
• Why is this goal important?
• Who is involved?
• Where is it located? (Closer is better!)
• Which resources obstacles are involved?
Tip #2 Make Goals Measurable
How will you know once you have reached your goal? Whether this means testing your body fat, keeping a workout or food log, or stepping on the scale, track your progress! Seeing measurable results will help you build momentum and sustain your motivation.
Tip #3 Reward Fitness Success
A goal should be challenging, but it’s important to set practical and usable resolutions that are within reach. Instead of setting a goal to lose 20 pounds, instead set smaller milestones along the way, such as: “As soon as I drop five pounds, I’ll treat myself to a relaxing massage.”
Make your exercise goals attainable so those rewards are easier to achieve. (Avoid food rewards too, try sticking with things that’ll make you feel fitter, like a new pair of sneakers or a sports massage.)
Tip #4 Write Them Down!
When your goals are written down they become easier to visualize which may help modify your mindset. The very act of jotting down resolutions means you took the first step to commit. Plus, it will help you stay accountable.
The good news is that you don’t need a new year or a magical holiday deadline in order to create and start working towards new fitness goals.
